Discover the Ancestral Legacy of Sillustani: Between Earth and Sky
Immerse yourself in a journey to Sillustani, a site of reverence and mystery located just 40 minutes from the city of Puno. This sacred enclave, which served as a cemetery for pre-Inca and Inca cultures, offers a unique window to the past through its impressive set of chullpas or funerary towers, which rise majestically up to 12 meters towards the blue sky.
During this 3 and a half hour experience, from 2 pm to dusk at 6 pm, we invite you to explore the peninsula where Sillustani is located, surrounded by the calm waters of the Umayo lagoon. From this point, you will not only witness the sublime natural beauty of the place, but also the extraordinary architecture and engineering of a remote era.
Each funerary tower guards the remains of noble men, who were buried along with rich offerings to accompany them on their journey to the afterlife. The chullpa of the lizard stands out, near which the trousseau of a nobleman with more than 500 pieces of gold was discovered, a treasure that is now exhibited in the Carlos Dreyer museum in Puno, offering a tangible perspective of the richness and complexity of these ancient cultures.
