Discover the Ancestral Legacy of Sillustani
Ancestral funerals between Earth and Heaven
Immerse yourself in a journey to Sillustani, a site of reverence and mystery located just 40 minutes from the city of Puno. This sacred enclave, which served as a cemetery for the pre-Inca and Inca cultures, offers a unique window into the past through its impressive set of chullpas or funerary towers, which rise majestically up to 12 meters into the blue sky.
During this 3.5 hour experience, from 2 pm until dusk at 6 pm, we invite you to explore the peninsula where Sillustani is located, surrounded by the calm waters of the Umayo Lagoon. From this point, you will not only witness the sublime natural beauty of the place, but also the extraordinary architecture and engineering of a remote era.
Each funerary tower guards the remains of noble men, who were buried with rich offerings to accompany them on their journey to the afterlife. The chullpa of the lizard stands out, near which the trousseau of a nobleman was discovered with more than 500 pieces of gold, a treasure that is now exhibited in the Carlos Dreyer museum in Puno, offering a tangible perspective of the richness and complexity of these ancient cultures.
