Excursion to Lake Titicaca
Cultural visit to the Uros Floating Islands
Embark on an unforgettable adventure to the Floating Islands of the Uros, a hidden treasure in the bay of Puno, just 20 to 30 minutes by boat from the port of Puno. This exclusive tour of approximately 3 hours immerses you in the life and traditions of one of the most ancient ethnic groups of the Andean highlands.
The floating islands of the Uros, a marvel of natural engineering, are built entirely of Totora, an aquatic plant essential to the existence of the Uros. From their floating homes to their boats, the Totora is the core of their culture, used not only for construction but also as a source of food and fuel. The ancestral technique to create these islands consists of joining large blocks of the roots of Totora, whose porosity and the gases generated by their decomposition allow them to float. These structures are carefully anchored and require constant maintenance, replacing the top layer of Totora every 20 days to preserve their buoyancy and habitability.
By visiting the Uros Floating Islands, you will not only witness an extraordinary way of life that has endured through the centuries, but you will also take part in an authentic cultural experience. Learn about how the Uros harmonize with their natural environment, keeping their fishing and bird hunting traditions alive, and how they have adapted their ancestral practices to coexist in perfect balance with Lake Titicaca.
Get ready for an authentic and memorable experience that will be engraved in your heart! Discover the history, culture, and incredible natural engineering that make the Uros Floating Islands a must-see destination. Optionally you can also kayak in the Uros
